A million apps downloaded for Leap Motion

The makers of the Leap Motion control device claim that over a million apps have been downloaded for the device.

The Leap Motion controller is one of the latest peripherals to attempt to bring motion control to PCs, and has gathered a lot of attention after demonstrations that claim the peripheral provides better detection for fine motor areas like the fingers.

According to Leap Motion, the SDK for the system has been downloaded 25,000 times, with developer portal signups doubling since last month.

"We’re providing developers and users a powerful platform for creating, playing, exploring and learning, and it’s thrilling to see people around the world take their first leap with our technology," said Leap Motion CEO and co-founder Michael Buckwald.

"We’re already seeing musicians, doctors, teachers, artists, students and gamers find creative and practical uses for their Leap Motion Controllers, and we’re just getting started.

The Leap is similar in many ways to Microfoft’s Kinect, but boasts the ability to track finer movement in fingers and hands.
