Chinese developer using French procedural texturing tool in Free2Play online title

Allegorithmicâ??s ProFX adopted by The9 for new MMO

Texturing tool firm Allegorithmic has expanded its customer base into Asia: Chinese game company The9 has added ProFX to its game development pipeline.

The9 chose ProFX for its ability to procedurally generate high-quality textures with extremely small file sizes quickly and will use the tool to bring down the file size and download time for its upcoming massively multiplayer online game titles.

“In developing a successful title using the Free2Play model, there is a direct relationship between the size of the game client and the success of the game,” said Liu Kun, senior director from the R&D center at The9.

“This means it is imperative that we offer players incredible graphics and an improved gaming experience overall with a minimum download time and storage footprint. ProFX helps us accomplish this goal quickly and efficiently.”

Allegorithmic says ProFX is the only game middleware of its type and is perfect for the online titles.

“The new online gaming business models coming from Asia will redefine the way games are going to be played and monetized in the entire world,” said Dr. Sebastien Deguy, Allegorithmic’s president and founder.

“I’m very pleased to see a highly successful company like The9 recognize the value of ProFX, and that they have chosen to utilize it for their upcoming MMOG title targeted towards the burgeoning Chinese market.”
