Google's OS continues to prove popular on mobile

Android device activations surpass one billion

More than one billion Android devices have been activated to date, Google has revealed.

The impressive figure comes after it was revealed the number of downloads on Google Play had eclipsed those on the App Store during the last quarter.

App Annie claimed that countries such as India, Russia and Brazil were helping to drive the increase in downloads on Android devices.

In September last year, it was revealed that Google Play had surpassed 25 billion app downloads.

It’s main OS rival in the mobile space, Apple’s iOS however, has seen 50 billion downloads to date from the App Store. This amounts to approximately 800 downloads per second.
