Apple confirms ‘iPad 2’ press event

The event will be held as usual at the Yerba Buena Center for the Arts on March 2nd. UK press will get a simulcast at BBC Television Centre.

Although the invite doesn’t mention iPad specifically, it does feature an iOS calendar icon that peels away to show an iPad screen in the background.

Observers expect the new tablet to be thinner and come with faster hardware, higher res screen and a FaceTime camera.

But knowing Apple, there could be other surprises.

Sources say Apple will ship 5m iPad 2 units in the first quarter of 2011.
