BAFTA Young Game Designers 2018 competition now open

The 8th annual BAFTA Young Game Designers competition has opened its doors to applicants. It’s a fantastic opportunity for UK residents between 10 – 18 years old, interested in game design and looking to get into the industry. It’s free to enter and designed to fit around the curriculum, so kids (and young adults) can take part as part of lessons in school, or at an afterschool club.

In fact, BAFTA has made available educational resources for parents and teachers. This includes full lesson plans and worksheets that will prepare students for a life in game design. Plus example application forms and links off site to further reading.

Two prizes are available, a Game Concept award and a Game Making award, giving applicants an opportunity to either focus on design or try their hand at creating a playable build. For kids seeking inspiration, some previous years’ winners and nominees are available to play from the BAFTA YGD website.

Today’s BAFTA Young Game Designers are tomorrow’s legendary auteurs and we’re very much looking forward to seeing what 2018’s crop of future developers brings. We encourage people to spread the word and make this the biggest, best YGD to date. Until next year, of course.
