Boston mayor commits to games industry

The mayor of Boston, Thomas Menino, has shown his committment to the games industry, reports Edge.

He has set two schemes in motion aimed at supporting the local games industry, launching the networking site PoweringUpBoston.com and establishing a steering committee for local development.

The region is home to such well-known developers as 2K Boston, MMO company Turbine and Rock Band creators Harmonix. According to the mayor’s office, the industry employs over 1,500 people across 76 companies, contributing $200 million to the local industry.
