Debut presentation by Frontier boss on microcomputer scheduled for Brighton event; Early bird ends today

Braben bringing Rasperry Pi to Develop Conference

David Braben is to deliver a session at the Develop in Brighton Conference that looks at the past, present and future of the Raspberry Pi microcomputer.

The presentation by the co-founder of the Raspberry Pi Foundation and boss of development studio Frontier will be the first to the games industry from Braben on the diminutive coding platform.

The session, titled ‘Raspberry Pi – the story so far’, promises to reveal how programming on the hardware is being picked up post-launch, look at what the computer is practically capable of, and examine the most exciting work carried out with the platform thus far. Attendees of Braben’s talk can also expect a preview of the next iteration of the Raspberry Pi computer.

The talk is the first confirmed session for the new Develop Visionaries track, which is set to bring a number of presentations from those pushing the boundaries of the games development sector.

“We’re very excited to announce David Braben as our first Develop Visionaries speaker,” said Andy Lane, managing director of Develop in Brighton organiser Tandem Events. “From social games and mobile apps to motion-controlled consoles and virtual goods sold in virtual worlds – all the big business trends in games began years ago with a bright idea from the fringe. Through Develop Visionaries, we’re dedicated to finding the kind of people who have these sorts of ideas, and sharing their ideas with Develop in Brighton’s delegates.”

Raspberry Pi is a $25 credit card-sized computer designed with a view to introduce a new generation of children to computer programming while supporting ‘bedroom coders’. Launched at the end of February, Raspberry Pi sold out with great pace.

The next Develop Conference takes place at the Hilton Metropole in Brighton, UK, from July 10th to 12th 2012. Early Bird tickets are available until the end of today, via the event’s official website.
