Facebook game draws record numbers in just over a month, eclipsing FarmVille

CityVille smashes 100m monthly user milestone

CityVille has cemented its position as the most popular Facebook game of all time with over 100m users.

The casual title developed by Zynga now has 100,064,578 monthly active users, putting it ahead of the firm’s other big Facebook offering FarmVille. This has 57m monthly users.

CityVille launched on December 2nd and in two weeks pulled in 26m users. Since then it has drawn another 74m users to hit the 100m milestone.

The title is free to play and allows gamers to buy in-game currency to exchange for real money. It lets users create their own city and bring their businesses into friends’ cities.

Since it was founded in 2007 Zynga has released a range of casual games including Mafia Wars, FrontierVille and Zynga Poker.
