Studio restructuring digital development and publishing divisions

Codemasters enacts layoffs

Long-standing UK developer Codemasters is set to lay off a number of staff as it restructures certain aspects of its business, it has confirmed.

In a statement to Develop, a spokesperson for the studio said it was currently restructuring certain aspects within its digital development and publishing divisions “in line with future product strategy”.

It is expected that the development of titles such as Grid 2 and the Formula 1 series will not be affected.

It is not yet known how many employees will be laid off at the developer, although it is believed that up to 80 developers could be hit by the restructuring plans.

“As the Company realigns its operations to focus on areas of increased strategic importance and decrease resources in areas that are not delivering value for the business, the Company has proposed the restructure of certain aspects within its digital development and publishing units in line with future product strategy,” read a statement from Codemasters.

“As a result of the proposed restructure, the Company has therefore entered into a period of collective consultation with the affected employees.

“The restructure is not companywide and is not anticipated to impact the development of its core console and PC titles such as GRID 2 or its annual FORMULA ONE title.”
