Film Engine is the next iteration of Crytek-created Cinebox platform

CryEngine to power VR-friendly film production tool

A new visual effects and animation tool for filmmakers based on Crytek’s CryEngine has been announced.

Film Engine is the spiritual successor of Cinebox, film production software originally created by Crytek and used in movies including Dawn of the Planet of the Apes (pictured) and The Maze Runner before it span out into an independent firm.

The real-time platform is said to be particularly suitable for VR experiences, allowing creators to work on elements such as layout, lighting, rendering and editing simultaneously.

It also includes support for virtual production tools such as motion capture and green screen compositing.

Version 1.0 of Film Engine is planned for release within the next few months.
