Crytek’s new US studio takes on 35 former Vigil Games devs

As THQ’s studios and IP went under the hammer a few days ago, the only studio to not find any takers was Vigil Games, along with its Darksiders IP. There’s some good news though as Crysis developer Crytek has opened its first US studio and taken on 35 former Vigil staff.

The new Crytek studio is located in Austin, Texas, the same city as Vigil, and will be headed by David Adams, who was general manager at Vigil.

Headquartered in Germany, the Austin studio is Crytek’s ninth, with others in the UK, Ukraine, Bulgaria, South Korea, Turkey, Hungary and China.

Crytek has always enjoyed a special relationship with gamers and business partners in North America, so establishing a permanent presence in the US was a natural step,” said Crytek CEO Cevat Yerli. We are extremely excited about the work that we will be undertaking from our strategic new location in Austin, with David Adams and his team of 35 experienced developers.”

The US studio is positioned to take on new game, engine and business development for Crytek.

Crytek recently purchased the rights to the Homefront franchise, having already been at work on Homefront 2 for THQ.

More immediately, the developer is set to release Crysis 3 for Xbox 360, PS3 and PC on 22nd February, with a multiplayer beta set to kick off today.
