Grand Theft Auto V topped the developer sales charts in October following a remarkable launch in September. Rockstar North’s open world blockbuster reportedly made over $1 billion in its first three days on sale, and has now shipped over 29 million copies.

For those interested in more family-friendly adventures, the latest Pokémon titles, named X and Y, sold well on 3DS and DS, helping Japanese studio Game Freak make it to third place.

Elsewhere, FIFA 14 came second – while Pro Evolution only managed to reach number 17 – in its second month.

Beyond: Two Souls, David Cage’s first title since the well-received Heavy Rain, helped to push France studio Quantic Dream into the charts. Quantic was one of only two independent studios this month; Game Freak being the other.

There’s been more movement this month as publisher’s holiday releases hit the shelves. Ubisoft, Nintendo and Codemasters managed to get their releases into the top ten, pushing out summer leaders, such as Volition, which continued to see sales.

Three studios in the top ten hail from the UK this month, including Rockstar North.
