EA gets new licence for college football

The Collegiate Licensing Company is extending its contract with EA sports until 2017.

This follows news that the NCAA would not renew its licensing agreement with EA sports, in part due to lawsuits over the unauthorized use of player likenesses.

Polygon reports the contract extension will provide EA the rights to use "more than 150 colleges, conferences, and bowl games" for its college football games.

The contract extension will take effect in July 2014, giving EA access to many of the same licenses for educational establishments and teams. EA will no longer have access to the NCAA logo and name.

The agreement is nonexclusive due to the $27 million Pecover vs. Electronic Arts antitrust settlement.

It is unknown if any schools have backed out the new agreement.
