US baseball star's game studio fills key CTO role as ramp up on new IP begins

EA systems engineer joins 38 Studios

38 Studios has hired EA’s Jon Laff as chief technology officer.

Previously a systems engineer at EA, he played a key role in growing the new EA Montreal and in developing its first new IP title, Army of Two. He also worked at EA Los Angeles as the lead engineer on Medal of Honor: European Assault and the Xbox lead engineer on Medal of Honor: Rising Sun.

As CTO at 38, Laff will lead all aspects of the technical vision for the studio as it gears up work on its new IP fantasy title co-created with genre writers R.A. Salvatore and Todd McFarlane.

"38 Studios’ mission in delivering online entertainment products is deeply rooted in being steps ahead in terms of technology, design, and ultimately – fun," said Brett Close, CEO and President of 38 Studios. "As CTO, Jon brings exceptional technical expertise and leadership experience that are key to not only what products we build, but how we build them."
