Publisher expecting headcount increase by end of year despite reports of up to 1,000 imminent layoffs at the company

EA: ‘We are looking to hire hundreds of staff’

Publishing giant EA expects the overall headcount at the company will be up by the end of the year despite reportedly being set to axe as many as 1,000 jobs.

In a statement to Ripten, a spokesperson for the company said that it was looking to hire hundreds of employees for its digital, console and mobile services.

“EA is growing and looking to hire hundreds of people for our digital, console, mobile and social games,” read the statement.

“Like all game companies, we make occasional adjustments to resize teams as projects are completed and new priorities are established. Overall, we expect that headcount will be up at the end of this year.”

The publisher yesterday refuted the rumours that it was set to downsize its global workforce by five to ten per cent, and cryptically told Develop that “at any given time there are new people coming in and others leaving”.
