Gabe Newell 2012 honouree at Night to Unite - for Kids gala

ESA raises $822k for charities and scholarships

The ESA foundation raised over $822,000 for grants and scholarships at its 15th annual Night to Unite – for Kids black tie gala.

The event took place October 18th at the San Francisco Westin St. Francis, and highlighted a new partnership between the ESAF and Childrens Miracle Network Hospitals.

The organisations are collaborating on Extra Life, a 24-hour games marathon that enables players to raise money for their choice of CMN Hospital.

The evening’s festivites celebrated the contribution of Valve CEO Gabe Newell, who was this year’s ESA champion honouree in recognition of his efforts in creating software and games such as Portal that are used in classrooms to teach problem solving in physics, mathematics, and language arts.

“Nite to Unite’s success is due to the video game industry’s generosity, leadership and commitment to children,” said ESA President and CEO Michael D. Gallagher.

“Our industry once again came together to support programs and initiatives that equip America’s young adults with the skills they need for academic and workforce success.”

A full list of ESAF beneficiaries is available at the organisation’s website.
