Julien Merceron working on Fox Engine at Windsor office

Ex-Square Enix technology director joins Konami

Former Square Enix CTO Julien Merceron has joined Konami as worldwide technology director.

Merceron will work from the publisher’s UK office based in Windsor. He has been tasked with leading the company’s push into digital, as well as working on the Fox engine, which set to be used in Metal Gear Solid V.

Prior to joining Konami, Merceron served as Eidos Worldwide CTO covering studios such as Crystal Dynamics, IO Interactive and Eidos Montreal, and later as worldwide technology director for Square Enix.

He also previously worked at Ubisoft from 1996 to 2006 as lead programmer and worldwide technical director.

“Julien brings with him an incredible awareness of how to take games as an entertainment force forward,” said Konami European president Shinji Hirano.

“He will be a key member of our talented development community and be integral to ensuring that future titles will push the limits of what can be technically achieved, while ensuring they retain Konami’s famed gameplay. We welcome him and his talents to the team.”
