Bidding closes for bankrupt publisher's remaining IP

Final THQ auction expected to raise $7m

The final bids have been heard in THQ’s bankruptcy auction and if approved are expected to raise between $6 and $7 million.

Polygon cites court documents filed last week that show the last bids were due on April 15th and that the results of the closed-casket proceedings are to be brought before the court for approval in May in the hope of closing the deal by the end of the month.

The documents state that 17 bids were heard for “certain of the IP”, but don’t say who bid how much or on what,

The remaining properties were divided into six lots, consisting of Darksiders, Red Faction, Homeworld, MX, “other owned software”, and “other licensed software.

The owned software lot included Big Beach Sports, Destroy All Humans!, Summoner, and others, while the licensed software lot included Marvel Super Hero, Supreme Commander, Worms, and more.

TeamPixel, the developer behind a successful IndieGoGO campaign to raise money to buy the Homeworld IP, revealed it had been outbid and would be refunding the money to campaign backers.

The CEO of the newly formed Crytek USA, David Adams, had earlier announced his intention to bid on Darksiders, as his team is largely composed of developers from the now defunct Vigil Games.

"Going to bid on Darksiders IP," Adams said over Twitter.

"Put seven years of heart and soul into that franchise, and I think it belongs at home with its creators."

It is unknown if Crytek followed through and secured the IP.
