Heavy Rain cost $52m, made Sony over $130m

Heavy Rain may have cost a pretty penny to make, but the investment turned out to be more than worth it for Sony and Quantic Dream.

Eurogamer reports Quantic Dream’s Guillaume de Fondaumiere revealed total figures for the PS3 exclusive during a talk at Digital Dragons in Poland. The CEO explained that the game cost around $21.8m to make, with Sony’s marketing budget adding another $30m to the total.

It worked out well in the end, with the game grossing $130.6m for Sony.

It’s very profitable,” Fondaumiere said. …We should stop thinking that innovation rhymes with unprofitable.”

Quantic Dream is currently working on two Playstation exclusives: Beyond: Two Souls, due out on PS3 later this year, and a yet to be announced PS4 project.
