Secret Sorcery now hiring, will show off early work to industry partners at E3 next week

Former Evolution devs set up new virtual reality studio

Several members of Driveclub and Motorstorm developer Evolution Studios have departed in order to set up their own venture.

The new company Secret Sorcery is based in St Helens in the North West of England, and will be focused entirely on virtual reality games, according to GamesIndustry.

The team is led by managing director Scott Kirkland, who was a co-founder and studio technical director of Evolution. He left Evolution back in March along with other members of the studio, following a round of layoffs.

Also joining him is creative director Alan McDermott, formerly game director and audio director at Evolution, and technical director Ian Moran, previously founder of Rage Software and a graphics programmer at Evolution.

Nigel Middleman, former senior technical artist at Evolution joins as technical art director, while Evolution’s physics and gameplay programmer Craig Beeston joins as programming director.

“We’re preparing to share our early work with industry partners at E3 in Los Angeles as a prelude to ambitious product development and studio growth,” said Kirkland.

“We’d love to hear from creatively talented and skilled developers who share our enthusiasm for VR gaming. This is the beginning of something magical; we’re looking forward to sharing more exciting news over the coming weeks.”

Developers interested in joining Secret Sorcery should email careers@secretsorcery.com.
