Special Effect, Lifelites, Action For Kids, Jigsaw4U, Safe at Last, Accuro and MAPS each receive more than £60,000

GamesAid gives record-breaking £438,000 to partner charities

Members of industry organisation GamesAid raised an impressive £438,000 in the past year, which will be split between seven partner charities.

The games industry charity announced this was its biggest year to date, and brings the organisation’s fundraising total to £1.2m since GamesAid was first established in 2007.

The £438,000 will be shared equally across seven charities – more than the usual four or five – which were voted for by members of GamesAid. This year’s recipients are Special Effect, Lifeites, Action For Kids, Jigsaw4u, Safe at Last, Accuro and MAPS, each of which takes home £62,571.

"2014 has been a massive year for GamesAid," said the charity’s chair Stuart Dinsey. "We’ve raised more money, supported more charities and distributed bigger individual cheques than ever before.

"As I stepp down after my three-year tenure as trustee and chair I think I can safely say that GamesAid has never been stronger, better supported, or more able to make a real difference to the lives of kids and young people through the charities we support – it’s a great thing to be a part of and I encourage anyone in the video games industry to become a member today."

GamesAid is already working on next year’s fundraising plans with a Comedy Store night to be held in Manchester on October 20th, 2014, which will star GamesAid patron and comedian Imran Yusuf.
