Organizers announce new talks and game design challenge participants

GDC 2012 updates

GDC 2012 will host talks on Deus Ex: Human Revolution, Skylanders, and Indie Games Festival finalist Frozen Synapse, the event organizers have revealed.

The talks will be part of the Game Design track, one of seven available to main conference pass holders for this year’s event to be held March 5-9 in San Francisco, California.

The announcement, reported by Gamasutra, also revealed the participants of this year’s game design challenge.

Returning champion, Jason Rohrer, will appear alongside Uncharted’s lead game designer Richard Lemarchand, as well as Noah Falstein, co-creator of Sinistar and Indian Jones and the Fate of Atlantis.

Rohrer made headlines last year with his answer to the challenge to make a game that’s also a religion by releasing a minecraft seed on a flash drive. The flash drive was not to be copied, the player was granted only one life, and was not to talk about his experience in the game.

This year’s challenge is to make a game that takes under a minute to play and has a measurable positive effect on the life of the player.
