GDC 2015: All the news from March 3rd

This year’s Game Developers Conference rumbled on yesterday, with the long-awaited update of a widely-used game engine, the future of graphics revealed and a slew of new tools released.

The headline was the launch of Unity 5, available for the first time in two versions: the feature-packed Professional edition and the free hobbyist alternative Personal edition.

And Valve returned to the engine space with the revelation of Source 2, which targets both developers and creative consumers alike.

Meanwhile the future of OpenGL was finally given a name: Vulkan, a new graphics API previously known as the glNext project. Expect to hear more about this new tech as the week progresses.

There were also tools releases and announcements from Perforce, Geomerics, Arxan and Allegorithmic.
