IO Interactive to discuss techniques and optimisations used to achieve '1,200 character crowds'

GDC: Hitman dev to showcase crowd technology

Hitman: Absolution developer IO Interactive is to showcase its new crowd technology at GDC, the studio has revealed.

Integrated into the company’s Glacier 2 engine, the tech was designed to help create “very dense” crowds that users can also interact with and influence.

The engine and the crowd technology will be presented by IO Interactive lead physics programmer Kasper Fauerby on March 7th at Room 2006 in the West Hall.

The presentation will discuss the techniques and optimisatioins used to achieve 1,200 character crowds said to be present in the next Hitman title, whilst running at “30 fps” on current consoles
