New sequel to feature mutliplayer and environmental changes; powered by GlassBox engine

GDC: Maxis rebuilds SimCity for 2013 release

Maxis is developing the fourth instalment in the SimCity franchise for PC, the studio has revealed.

Confirming recent reports at GDC, the “reimagined” city building simulation franchise will return in 2013.

The latest SimCity will feature environmental challenges such as climate change, whilst users are also tasked with searching for renewable resources around the world to aid them in building their city.

The title will also feature a new multiplayer mode in which players can build neighbouring cities, as well as compete on global leaderboards.

SimCity will be powered by Maxis’ new proprietary engine GlassBox, built especially for the game, which Maxis claims will bring “simulation to life in a way never before possible”.
