Cash injection proves 'government is serious about funding research in the creative industries' says COO Chris Doran

Geomerics gets Government grant

Ambitious UK middleware firm Geomerics has scored a big cash grant from the Government’s Technology Strategy Board.

Geomerics launched its Enlighten SDK at GDC last month. The tool aims to provide dynamic in-game lighting which it says is a key element in introducing realism into next-gen games.

The cash will help keep the company "at the forefront of lighting technology for years to come" while working on its ‘£1m lighting project’ as Geomerics continues to develop its lighting technology with University College London.

This project with UCL is co-funded by the Technology Strategy Board’s Collaborative R&D programme, and chosen following an open competition for the funds. The three-year project will receive investment of £525,000 from the technology Strategy Board, with Geomerics receiving £330,000 and UCL £195,000.

Geomerics COO, Chris Doran, commented: “I am delighted that we been awarded this grant. It is the second successive award for us, and shows that the government is serious about funding research in the creative industries.

"Our company philosophy is to be a driving force for bringing new technology to the games industry, and this grant will help ensure that our research and development vision can be fully realised”.
