Github for Unity brings Git and Github directly into Unity Editor

Github announce Unity extension

Github has today announced an extension "Github for Unity" which will allow Unity game developers, programmers and artists to integrate Git and Github into their working lives easier, even if they’re creating versions of large binary assets. A win for version control, perhaps.

The extension, as you might imagine, happily integrates Git and Github directly into your Unity Editor. From there you can configure and manage the git project in a dedicated window in the editor. It also brings Git LFS v2.0 support to Unity for the storing of large binary assets but also additional perks like file-locking.

You can read the official blog announcing the information here on Github’s blog. The alpha release for the extension is planned for release in the new few weeks, with the promise that it’ll emerge, blinking, into the open source light soon after.
