Glen Schofield at NGDC 2012: Quality is king

Glen Schofield is a man with 22 years of experience in the gaming industry. He’s currently the VP of Sledghammer Games (Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3) and he delivered a keynote speech at the NASSCOM Game Developer Conference.

The one motto he lives by is Quality is King” and he urges budding developers to never compromise on their vision. He explained that while at times, developers may have to hurry up a game to meet deadlines, they shouldn’t ship a sub-par game.

He stressed upon the importance of polish and advised that game elements not meeting the required level of polish by predetermined deadlines should be axed from the game altogether.

If it isn’t good enough, just cut it or the game will suffer,” he said.

Juggling budgets and timelines will definitely become a tricky proposition, but Schofield feels developers should have the stones to make tough calls.
