Google shows off Chrome app store

Google has detailed its new online app store, which is named the Chrome Web Store. Introducing the new rival to Apple’s App Store at the company’s San Francisco I/O developer conference yesterday, Google’s vice president of product management Sundar Pichai demonstrated how flash versions of the likes of Plants vs. Zombies will be available through the service.

Like many of its contemporaries, Google’s new web store offers a gallery of apps, reports PC Mag, which will be available through a new tab in the search engine giant’s proprietary web browser Chrome. The app store will also be available through the forthcoming Chrome OS netbook operating system, which is itself based on Google’s browser.

According to Pichai: "apps in the Chrome Web Store can be built on standard Web technologies like Flash and we will support all of them in the Chrome Web Store."
