Harmonix confirms ‘small number’ of layoffs

The Massachusetts-based studio behind Rock Band has confirmed “a small number” of layoffs due to a change in priorities for its future projects, the company has confirmed.

Harmonix, best known for the Rock Band and Dance Central franchises, and is currently known to be working on another music title: Fantasia: Music Evolved for the Xbox One and 360.

“We can confirm that a small number of Harmonix employees were let go today,” a spokesperson told Gamasutra.

“This decision was made due to shifting staffing priorities for Harmonix’s multiple future projects.”

Harmonix currently employs over 150 people, the spokesperson added.

Reports of the layoffs on Twitter suggest the cuts may have included layoffs in the studio’s art department.
