Hideo Kojima named Most Valuable Person

Kojima Productions studio head Hideo Kojima has been named ‘Most Valuable Person’ at the 2008 Famitsu Awards, held in Tokyo today.

The award represents ‘the person who has contributed to the growth of the games industry, not limited to developers’. His studio also scooped Game Character of the Year for Solid Snake and the High Quality Grand Prize for Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots.

Also winning big at the event were Capcom, who received the Game Company of the Year award. Their PSP smash-hit Monster Hunter Portable 2nd G, which was 2008’s best-selling game in Japan, won the Best Seller Grand Prize. Capcom also won the World Wide Prize for Grand Theft Auto 4 due to its publishing deal in the territory.

Finally, Develop favourite Level 5 won the Adventure and Puzzle Prize for the concluding part of their original Professor Layton trilogy, Professor Layton and the Last Time Travel.
