HTC wants virtual reality Half-Life

Cher Wang, chairwoman of mobile giant HTC, says she “hopes” Valve will release a Half-Life title for Vive VR, the new virtual reality headset built as part of a partnership between the two firms.

Vive VR was announced on Sunday, and while a number of companies are already building games for the high-end VR device – including Owlchemy Labs’ Job Simulator – Valve has yet to reveal any of its own plans for VR games.

Wang said HTC was “co-operating with Half-Life”, according to the BBC, but would not specify whether such a project would be a remake of one of the earlier games in the series or, yes, Half-Life 3.

The BBC observes that the chairwoman could be referring to a test version of Half-Life 2 that Valve gave to devs working on Oculus Rift a few years back (pictured).

Valve is currently at GDC in San Francisco this week, and is due to reveal more about SteamVR, the Steam Machines and the final Steam Controller. Whether or not Half-Life 3 gets thrown into that mix remains to be seen.
