Creator CI20 features 1.2 GHZ dual-core processor and 1GB DDR3 memory

Imagination gets into micro-computing with Raspberry Pi rival

Imagination Technologies has opened pre-orders for a new micro-computer similar to the Raspberry Pi.

The MIPS Creator CI20 has been designed for developers to create a range of applications and projects, including games.

The development board features a 1.2 GHZ dual-core processor, PowerVR SGX540 graphics, dedicated video hardware for low power 1080p decoding at 30fps and 1GB DDR3 memory. It will come pre-installed with Debian 7, though other Linux distributions will be available, and users can also install the latest version of Android 4.4.

It is currently open for pre-orders at £50 and is expected to be released in January 2015.

“We are very excited to be taking part in the growing interest within the open source and maker communities for affordable, fully featured development platforms,” said Imagination marketing EVP Tony King-Smith.

“Creator CI20 has been designed for people who want high performance and advanced features for their development projects and to create access at the software and hardware level to allow creativity to come to the fore.”
