Indies call for better digital charts

UK indies have called for more comprehensive games industry charts – specifically ones that take digital sales into account.

MCV reports that two major indie games – Mike Bithell’s Volume and The Chinese Room’s Everybody’s Gone To The Rapture – would have stood toe-to-toe with big retail blockbusters if such charts existed. In fact, The Chinese Room would have been in the No.1 spot.

“[A chart] would encourage competition and progress in the genres that gamers are really enjoying which is a good thing,” Positech’s Cliff Harris told MCV.

Studios also argue that omitting this data dramatically undersells how rapidly the independent scene is growing.

The news emerged as MCV launched its Digital Counts campaign.
