[Industry news] G2 Esports and Theta Labs Launch AI Agent Sami

This is a press release posted in addition to our usual editorial content.

G2 Esports, one of the world’s most decorated esports organisations, and Theta Labs, the leading blockchain-powered decentralised cloud provider for AI and media, today announced the launch of an AI agent for G2’s global fan community across multiple competitive titles including League of Legends, Counter-Strike 2, VALORANT, Rainbow Six Siege, and Call of Duty.

G2’s mascot, Sami, trained and deployed on Theta EdgeCloud’s distributed GPU infrastructure, will provide G2 fans with instant access to team information, match schedules, player rosters, tournament standings, and competitive updates across all of G2’s active esports divisions. The agent will be accessible through the G2 website and Discord and available from February 17th.

Elevating Fan Experience at Scale

With the addition of Sami, G2 will be better equipped to serve its massive global fanbase with immediate, accurate responses to fan queries across multiple games and competitive circuits. Rather than waiting for manual responses, fans can query the agent in natural language to get immediate answers about everything G2, from player stats and match updates to rosters, achievements, and spicy trivia. The system is trained on G2 lore (and memes), allowing it to provide accurate, up-to-date information on G2’s competitive campaigns across multiple esports titles.

The AI agent uses Theta EdgeCloud’s hybrid cloud-edge computing platform, which combines more than 30,000 distributed edge nodes with cloud infrastructure from Google Cloud and Amazon Web Services to deliver 80 PetaFLOPS of GPU compute power. This architecture allows the agent to process match data and generate analysis at costs ranging from one-fifth to one-third of traditional cloud platforms. Training and inference workloads for the agent run across Theta’s distributed GPU network, where specific tasks are routed to either high-performance A100/H100 cloud GPUs or NVIDIA 3090/4090 desktop GPUs based on performance requirements and cost parameters.

Theta has established itself as the AI partner of choice for the world’s leading esports teams. To date, Theta EdgeCloud powers AI agents and fan experiences for Cloud9, FlyQuest, Evil Geniuses, NRG, Gen.G, Dignitas, 100 Thieves, Method, and Team Heretics, supporting always-on engagement across channels like websites and Discord.

“G2 doesn’t do things halfway, so it made sense to build them an AI agent that can keep up with their fans’ energy and deliver instant answers about everything from LEC dominance to which tournament their CS team is playing in next,” said Mitch Liu, CEO of Theta Labs. “We’re proud we’ve created something that fits their community and is simple for them to implement. What we’re seeing across our esports partnerships is that fans want immediate access to information 24/7, and our AI agents make it possible to deliver that level of engagement consistently across every channel, but with its own distinct personality.”

“With Sami, we’re not just launching another AI chatbot, we’re launching AI the G2 way,” said Sabrina Ratih, COO of G2. “Partnering with Theta Labs allows us to combine powerful AI technology with G2’s tone of voice, so expect a chatbot that doesn’t take itself too seriously. We’re excited to provide a helpful and entertaining tool for our community to receive real-time updates.”
