But firm still plans to launch new MMO next year

Jagex cans MechScape

Runescape creator Jagex has made the decision to scrap its long-in-production second MMO MechScape, it has emerged.

The plug was pulled on the futuristic title in August – despite a formal announcement in March that the game was due for release later this year – costing the firm tens of millions of pounds.

However the firm still plans to launch a new MMO in 2010.

“Sadly the game was not as complete as we wanted and we spent the first few months trying to ‘fix’ the game where we could," Jagex CEO Mark Gerhard first revealed to Mechscapeworld.

"About a month or so ago we took the decision to stop trying to ‘fix it’ as we still wouldn’t have the game we wanted and the game certainly did not meet all the objectives and specifications established in the original game design document," he added.
