Developer could create a second team after current title is released

Journey studio Thatgamecompany considering move to multiple projects

Acclaimed developer Thatgamecompany could start to produce more than one game at a time following the team’s massive growth.

The studio’s latest game was Journey, a title that celebrates its third anniversary next week. When Journey was completed, Thatgamecompany had a team of 12 people. Today, it has 15.

During a roundtable discussion at GDC, studio manager Sunni Pavlovic said that this expanded headcount means potentially rethinking how the company operates, GamesIndustry reports.

"We’re thinking that when [our current] game comes out, we’re going to haver to go back to the drawing board to come up with the next game and there’s going to be this long iteration and pre-production time," she said.

"How do you keep all these people busy? So maybe for the first time we’re going to have a multi-project studio, whereas right now it’s like: ‘This is the team for the game, and that’s that’. That’s how we’ve addressed it in the past and what we’re thinking going forward."

Thatgamecompany has yet to announce what game it is currently working on. It is currently hiring for its new project – you can find details over at the developer’s website.
