Koukoi Games raises $1m in funding to develop games based on licensed IP

Finnish studo Koukoi Games has raised $1m in funding to support a push into developing games to take advantage of licensed IP’s.

Koukoi Games hail from Oulu, Finland, and also raised $1m in seed funding in 2015, shortly after they were funded by a number of ex-Rovio and Nokia staff.

Their previous title is a 3d mobile runner called Crashing Season. The team are already at work on their next project, a mobile game based on a licensed IP for an upcoming Hollywood production, although this could be based on a TV series or film.

"Through this funding Koukoi’s chances to create the next mobile game success story are further improved," said Koukoi Games CEO Antti Kananen in a statement. "This move also makes it possible for Koukoi to begin producing high quality mobile games in the IP market alongside our own original productions"

The funding comes from venture capital fund IPR.VC and Tekes, the Finnish Funding Agency for Innovation.

Using the money Koukoi Games are planning to search for new partners for "future cooperation" as they continue to grow. They suggest they’ll be revealing their big project soon.
