Publisher confirms small number of redundancies as part of restructure

Layoffs at Sega of America

A number of employees have been laid off at Sega of America, the company has confirmed.

It’s unknown just how many workers were affected, but VentureBeat reports that the number is small.

The layoffs are said to be part of recent restructuring, though it’s uncertain if this is the same as that announced last year.

“As the gaming industry continues to evolve, companies must adapt and adjust in order to compete and succeed in an ever-changing environment,” said a company spokeswoman.

“As a result of this, Sega of America has recently undergone a restructure that will enable the company to focus efficiently on developing new and existing content across digital platforms as well as continuing to focus on key brands for packaged goods.”

In recent times Sega has been restructuring its Western business, and has previously closed five offices in Europe. The publisher also recently shut down Sega Studios Australia.
