Both Carter brothers will join forces at new independent group

Lionhead technical boss departs for new studio

Simon Carter, the lead technical director at Guildford studio Lionhead, has parted ways with the group to build a new digital games studio.

Simon will partner with his brother Dene Carter, who himself left Lionhead early in 2010 to pursue a career in mobile games development.

Both will be building new games for Xbox Live Arcade, PlayStation Network, Steam and mobile, according to a GamesIndustry.biz report.

"The decision to leave Lionhead was a very difficult one," Simon Carter said.

“The games industry is an exciting place at the moment, and there are lots of new opportunities to pursue," he added.

"Everything is changing: consumer play habits, the relationship between the player and the developer, new funding and payment models; in a few years things are likely to look very different from the industry we know now. This is the time to do something different, so that’s what I’m planning to do."

Simon Carter is not thought to have left Lionhead under any acrimonious circumstances. He has sent his best wishes to his former studio.

The duo’s new studio was not named in the GamesIndustry.biz report.
