Livingstone honoured at British Inspiration Awards

Long-term servant of the games industry and current life president of Eidos Ian Livingstone was awarded a British Inspiration Award for his work in the interactive entertainment sector at this afternoon’s inaugural event.

The Awards were set up to honour the top creative minds in Britain across a range of categories, including interactive entertainment, film, TV, music, fashion and the Arts. Finalists in the Interactive Entertainment category included Rockstar founder Sam Houser and Codemasters’ co-founders David and Richard Darling.

Other winners included the late designer Alexander McQueen (fashion), ‘the fifth Beatle’ Sir George Martin (music), Elisabeth Murdoch (TV) and Glastonbury Festival founder Michael Eavis (Special Recognition Category).

The UK is the creative capital of the world,” BIA chairman and Nintendo UK boss David Yarnton said. With the same hard work, drive and determination shown by the winners and all our nominees, creative people can excel in this country.

You don’t need a great education and there’s great freedom for people to express themselves. Punk music, for example, would probably have been banned in many countries but was allowed to flourish here. I hope the British Inspiration Awards will change some people’s attitudes about Britain and make them proud.”

Here’s the list of winners in full:

FASHION – Alexander McQueen
ARTS – Matthew Bourne
DESIGN – Sir Terence Conran
INNOVATION, ENTERPRISE & INDUSTRY – Sir James Dyson
