Cross-platform tools developer teams up with retail giant following the launch of new Underground games venture

Marmalade releases dedicated Amazon SDK

Marmalade Technologies has launched a brand new SDK dedicated to helping developers build games for Amazon’s family of platforms.

The new tool, Marmalade for Amazon, allows studios to publish games directly to the Amazon Appstore, as well as the new Amazon Underground app which launched earlier this month.

Devs can deploy to Fire tablets, Fire phones, Fire TV and all Android devices that have access to the Amazon Appstore. Submission to the latter is integrated into the Marmalade Hub.

The SDK also includes built-in Amazon APIs, including Amazon GameCircle, Amazon Mobile Ads, Amazon Insight and In-App Purchasing, with more APIs promised with future updates.

Any developers that have yet to use Marmalade’s tools and deploy titles to Amazon through the new SDK will be able to switch to a full Marmalade licence and deploy to other platforms.

You can find out more about Marmalade for Amazon over at the firm’s website.

[Industry news] Physical disc production ending in January 2028 for new games releasing on PlayStation consoles

"As consumer preferences and the broader entertainment industry continue to shift away from physical discs to digital, physical game disc production for all new games releasing on PlayStation consoles will be discontinued starting January 2028.  Following this date, new games will be available on PlayStation Store and at retailers in digital formats only. This transition has no impact on games that already released, or will be releasing, prior to January 2028 in disc format."
