New game currently in the early stages of development

Media Molecule developing second project

Media Molecule is developing a second project alongside its recently unveiled Papercraft Vita title Tearaway.

As reported by Eurogamer, the studio’s creative director Mark Healey said whilst the main focus was on the impressive new handheld title, another title was currently in the early stages of development.

Media Molecule currently employs more than 40 staff, with just 15 of those working on Tearaway, leaving plenty of developers to work on other projects.

“We’re working on a second project right now, and that’s very much in an R&D phase," said Healey.

Media Molecule co-founder Alex Evans added: "The focus is Tearaway, but Media Molecule is a lot more than 15 people.

"We call it in a holding pattern, because the focus is on Tearaway. I’m not saying that from a press angle – our focus is on Tearaway and making it awesome. The other project is very much in an early stage and is a toy. You don’t need to worry about it."

The UK studio’s recently announced Vita title Tearaway, inspired by the developer’s own fascination with paper craft and paper game prototyping, takes advantage of many of the portable console’s unique capabilities such as its touch screen, reverse touch panel and motion functionality.

It is currently slated for release in 2013.
