Could this be the first step in making superhero MMO free-to-play?

Microtransactions appear on DC Universe online

An in-game microtransaction-based Marketplace has been introduced to Sony Online Entertainment’s PS3 and PC MMO title DC Universe Online.

Massively reports that the store is a little sparse at the moment, with only Proto Repair-Bots and Vault Tickets available.

There’s been little indication of what else is to come, but with so many other MMOs jumping aboard the F2P train of late (Champions Online, City of Heroes, Lord of the Rings Online, World of Warcraft) it doesn’t take a huge leap of imagination to see SOE taking its game down the same route.
