As PC sales break 6m combined sales bring indie hit near 10m

Minecraft sales total 9.2 million

Indie legend Minecraft has sold nearly ten million copies, say developers at Mojang.

The blockbusting blockbuster has sold over six million copies on PC, with both Xbox and mobile sales breaking the million mark shortly after release.

Xbox alone generated a million sales in the first five days after the release of Minecraft on the platform, breaking a record newly set by Trials Evolution as the fastest selling game on Xbox Live Arcade.

"Minecraft has now sold six million copies," said Marcus ‘Notch’ Persson today.

The Minecraft creator and founder of Swedish studio Mojang later added, "That’s the original PC version only, and doesn’t count Android, iOS or XBLA sales.’

"Counting all formats, we should be at around nine million copies sold, I’d guess? Does anyone at mojang know?"

"Yeah a little bit more :D. Maybe 9.2," replied Daniel Kaplan, Mojang’s business director.
