EA Games boss says it is 'actively' looking to bring it back

Mirror’s Edge 2 lives on

EA Games president Frank Gibeau has once again stated that Mirror’s Edge 2 hasn’t been “killed.”

“We’re actively looking at how to bring it back in the right way,” he told GTTV.

“We love that franchise. The DICE guys really created something, I think, special the first time around. You’ve got to have a big idea to be able to do the next one and that’s what we’re working on,” he said.

DICE, the studio behind Battlefield, are the makers of the Frostbite engine too.

When asked about Frostbite 2 and Mirror Edge, he added that “you’ll see that combination, I’m sure.”

Developed by DICE, original first-person platformer Mirror’s Edge proved too outlandish for the market in 2008.

Despite selling two million copies as of October 2010, Gibeau said sales of the Swedish studio’s original IP were “not as good as expected.” He has previously said that the game’s quality fell short.

The development status of a Mirror’s Edge sequel has been debated since early 2009.

DICE is currently making Battlefield 3, which is powered by its Frostbite 2 engine. DICE’s game engine will enable the studio to perform on an annual rotation with other EA studios, which could leave it free to take on new projects.
