22Cans creative director 'spending whole day answering emails'

Molyneux inundated with ‘1,000 job applications’

More than one thousand people are believed to have submitted job applications to 22Cans, the new Guildford studio established by Peter Molyneux and colleagues, just days after the company opened up to the press.

With a goal to fully staff his new studio by the end of the year, Molyneux requested that his email address be inserted into the body text of an interview published on Develop-Online in April.

“Since then, we’ve had just over 1,000 people apply for jobs at 22 Cans. That’s pretty damn exciting,” Molyneux told GiantBomb.

“I’m working 16 hours-a-day just answering those emails,” he said.

Molyneux’s last day at Lionhead took place on April 11th. He also resigned from his position as creative director of Microsoft Studios Europe. Though he praised Microsoft’s treatment of its staff – the company has won many ‘investor in people’ awards – he claimed that the corporate culture left him in a “creative padded cell”.

Now working on what will likely be his last studio venture, Molyneux is hoping to hire about fifteen more people by December and begin full production on his next project.
