New game will combine characters and stories from Final Fantasy XV and weave it into an MMO experience using MZ's technology.

MZ and Square Enix team up for Final Fantasy XV mobile MMO

Mobile developers MZ (formerly known as Machine Zone) have come together with Square Enix to make an online MMO based on the forthcoming Final Fantasy XV.

MZ are one of the forerunners in mobile games, behind hits like Mobile Strike and Game of War which are both performing well in the iOS charts right now. and their partnership with Square Enix is stark evidence of how the mobile market is changing and branded titles are coming to the fore as mobile gamers start to value well-known game brands and licenses as the App Store is becoming oversaturated with new properties and titles.

The name and release date for the Final Fantasy XV spinoff isn’t yet known, but the game will definitely benefit from the release of the main game, coming on November 29 for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One consoles.

In a statement, MZ founder and CEO Gabe Leydon said: “It is an honor to work on a franchise I have loved since I was a kid. Final Fantasy is an iconic franchise in gaming. Bringing Final Fantasy XV to the mobile MMO gaming world is a significant opportunity for our players and we are proud to partner with Square Enix.”

Meanwhile, Yosuke Matsuda, the president of Square Enix, said: “Machine Zone has a stellar track record in the mobile gaming space and we are putting Final Fantasy XV in trustworthy hands. We are very excited to work with the MZ team to bring together two leaders in the gaming world and look forward to Final Fantasy XV on MZ’s amazing gaming platform. We’ll work together to create MZ’s next great global mobile MMO game.”

The new title will be developed by an MZ game studio set up for the purpose and will combine characters and stories from Final Fantasy XV and weave it into an MMO experience using MZ’s technology.
