Animation tech group opens new offices in Seoul

NaturalMotion positions for Korean invasion

British animation tech group NaturalMotion has established a new office in the South Korean capital after declaring that the nation is becoming a “major player on the international scene”.

NaturalMotion’s new offices in Seoul mark another phase in the studio’s expansion. Established in 2001 as an Oxford University start-up, NaturalMotion went on to open an office in San Francisco, California.

“By establishing a local presence in Korea we can tailor our market approach to suit the Korean culture and language, strengthening our market position,” said Andy Payne, sales VP at the firm.

News of the new Seoul office follows the firm’s recent deal with South Korean MMO specialist firm WeMade Entertainment. UK studio Codemasters has also struck a ‘far reaching’ deal with the company.

NaturalMotion has gained its reputation in the game animation sector with its popular Morpheme tool as well as the Euphoria tool – the latter being a key component of Rockstar North’s GTA IV.

The firm has appointed business development manager Mag KW Kim to lead the team in its new South Korean offices. She will be attending G-Star 2009 in Busan to schmooze and network, and will be NaturalMotion’s point of contact for all interested developers.

“Ms Kim’s experience will prove extremely valuable,” added Payne. “I am delighted to welcome her to the team.”
