Emergent's tech to help online giant prototype new concepts

NCSoft licenses Gamebryo

NCSoft’s North American business unit has licenced Emergent’s Gamebryo game engine.

The news comes hot on the heels of its choosing Unreal Engine 3 for two next-generation massively multiplayer titles – although it says that Gamebryo will aid the studio in the prototype stage.

“Gamebryo offers a comprehensive development framework with the right balance of flexibility to integrate with our proprietary tools and existing projects,” said Chris Mayer, VP of product development for NCsoft North America.

“It allows us to very quickly take projects from concept to prototype on a variety of platforms which is a tremendous advantage from a creative execution standpoint. Having our creative teams worrying less about fighting with technical challenges and focused more on making sure the product is fun is the right strategy for developing our games.”

“Gamebryo was engineered as a flexible and modular platform supporting multiple genres of games,” said Geoffrey Selzer, CEO of Emergent. “Our cross-platform technology gives NCsoft unlimited options for extending its current products and creating new content for the global gaming audience.”
